Born in Alcalá, Caldas. She grew up helping in the fields, she only had elementary school education. She married Joaquín, a macho man, at the age of fourteen. She already had four children when she decided to leave the man because she could not stand his mistreatment. She left her children with her parents in Alcalá and went to look for work in Buenaventura, where she met Samuel, with whom she began a relationship that lasted until his death. With Samuel she had only one daughter, better known as Marbelle.

Of peasant extraction, he was born in Borbur, Boyacá. He joined the police and held different positions within the institution, but did not care about climbing positions in the military career, the only promotion he had in 27 years was from agent to dragoon. He always supported and admired his daughter, but did not intervene in her career or question Yamile's decisions. His kindness is evident in the gesture he makes when he welcomes Yamile's other children and welcomes them warmly.

She was born in a middle-class home, the only child, her parents are employees. She did an intermediate degree but she has no professional ambitions, she dreams of a husband who will give her stability. She knows what she wants, she perseveres until she gets it. She is pretty, spontaneous, outgoing, jealous, depressed and obsessive.

Maureen has four older half-siblings, Freddy, Alex, Marlon and Nancy. Freddy is the oldest of them all and is the one she loves the most. Marlon along with Nancy makes his sister's life impossible, he is hardworking and responsible, occasionally envious. Nancy is a girl repressed by everything she lived since she was a child, since the abandonment of her mother. Unlike them, there is Alex, who despite being the opposite of Freddy, does not act like them, and is the one who most resembles his father.

He was born in Cúcuta, Norte de Santander, in a very poor neighborhood called La Libertad. He began his military career in the police at a very young age and quickly rose through the ranks, becoming the head of security at the Palace under the presidency of Andrés Pastrana. He was investigated and convicted for alleged illicit enrichment and served his sentence in different prisons, only to regain his freedom after five years.  He is intelligent, astute, a good businessman, disciplined and romantic.
