Synopsis
On the afternoon of November 4, 1990, César Rincón was fatally gored to his right thigh while going in to kill a small bull named “Baratero” in the Palmira plaza. He is immediately taken to the hospital for surgery, and it is at that moment that Rincón stops being the great bullfighter to become just another man, a man whose life slips away second by second. This is how “Puerta Grande” begins.
Taking up the story of César in his childhood, this series shows the little son of a Bogotá photographer who plays with his neighborhood friends to be a bullfighter, a dream that with great sacrifice, mettle and dedication, as he passes through his childhood and adolescence It starts to come true. There are countless inconveniences that César must face, but with the help of Gonzalo, his father and the advice of Terencio, an old bookseller from his neighborhood, he debuted as a bullfighter and later took the alternative on December 8, 1982. At this time of His life meets Paloma Galdés, a beautiful Spanish rejoneadora who steals his heart.
For César now everything is different and in the midst of his precarious economic situation he manages to travel to Spain for the first time, where he never gets to see his face on an important billboard. There he receives the terrible news of the death of his mother María Teresa and his sister Sonia, returning to his homeland defeated and dejected to start anew. In his life so far he has only seen "the bad ones", to make matters worse the antagonism with "El Cordero", his childhood rival, and because of a strike by bullfighters, work is scarce. But suddenly a light appears and he meets Luis Álvarez, who will be his guardian and will take him to Spain twice more. On his second trip with Álvarez, César manages to reach the San Isidro Fair to triumph in "Las Ventas", the most important square in the world and exit through the "Puerta Grande". The afternoon of May 21, 1991 is the beginning of his triumphant career, which will always have as its premise the theme that old Terencio repeated so many times "... without cheating, César... without cheating."
